Hello Friends,
My name is Marion L. Bell and I wanted to take this time to introduce myself and ask for your support in my bid to represent the 68th Assembly District as the Democratic District Leader of Part C. this area includes Mt. Sinai, Lexington Houses, Residences on East 96th Street; George Washington Carver Houses, Lehman, Clinton, &Taft Public Housing; Lakeview, Villa Hermosa, as well as several private homes on Fifth Avenue.
As a lifelong resident of the 68th Assembly District and Lakeview in East Harlem, I have dedicated much of my life to improving the lives of the residents in this community. I’ve been a public school teacher for 15 years, advocating for students, teachers, and parents to make sure that the public schools in this community and in this city serve our children’s best interest. As a UFT/ NYSUT delegate and parent advocate, I have been a long term advocate for smaller class size like I had as a graduate of Convent of the Sacred Heart. I also attended St. Aloysius, graduated from Fordham University & Hunter College.
As a two – term District Leader I have stood up for East Harlem. I was there for this community when I helped lead the charge against the closing of Metropolitan Hospital, and secured $150,000 for the renovation of PS 108 Playground. Aside from fighting for our children, I have looked out for the interest of East Harlem residents as an executive board member on Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer’s Community Planning Board 11 and the NYS NAACP, as well as, Chair of the NYC DYCD board where we distributed over a million dollars in federal poverty grants to community based organizations.
Since 2006, I founded the East Harlem United Democrats with the late President Anne R. Bradshaw. We appointed numerous East Harlem residents to work with the NYC Board of Elections. These residents had no previous access to such positions. It has been their service that moves the common agenda's that need to be addressed. Moreover, the employment opportunity has recycled thousands of dollars into our local economy.
Thank you for your time and I hope I can count on your support for RE-ELECTION as Democratic District Leader, Judicial Delegate and County Committee Representative.
Very Truly Yours,
Marion L. Bell
